Warren Cottle Trail

What is the Warren Cottle Trail?  How did we receive funding for the project?  Safe Routes To School (SRTS)?

The Warren Cottle Trail is part of the SRTS program which is a new federally funded program that was created as part of the federal surface transportation bill, the Safe, Accountable, Flixible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act - A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). This program is to encourage elementary and middle school children to safely walk and bike to school, thereby promoting a healthier lifestyle. This in turn will help reduce traffic congestion, air pollution, and potentially improve the living habits of an entire generation of school children.

The City of Cottleville applied for and received funding for a new sidewalk/trail system under the SRTS. This new sidewalk/trail will extend from Fairfield subdivision along Old Weiss to the intersection of Knaust/Weiss/Cottleville Parkway and from there to the Warren Elementary School entrance. It will also continue south along Weiss Road to the intersection of St. Peters Cottleville Road and ultimately tie into the existing Vantage Park trail system.

Construction of the trail began February 1st of 2012.
