The Citizen Police Academy Mission:

To provide Cottleville Citizens with a better understanding of the Police Department, the officers, and their day-to-day responsibilities, the

 Cottleville Police Department is offering a Citizens Police Academy.

The Citizens Police Academy is a ten-week course dealing with all aspects of law enforcement roles, operations and community service.  Taught by Cottleville Police Officers, participants can expect both hands-on and classroom training to include a ride-along experience.

Registration:

The Citizens Police Academy is open to Cottleville residents, as well as those from surrounding areas or those who work in Cottleville.  You must be at least 21 years of age and of good moral character.  To ensure all participants receive the maximum benefit from the program, class size is limited.  Seats are filled on a competitive basis.  Complete the application (you can download an application from this site) and return same with the academy fee to the Cottleville Police Department located at 5490 Fifth Street.

· Polygraph

· DARE

· Community Policing

· School Resource Officer Program

· Constitutional Law

· Radar/Laser Speed Enforcement

· Traffic Control

· Use of Force

· ASP (impact weapon)

· TASER

· Firearms Training (shooting)

· Traffic Crash Investigations

· DWI Field Sobriety Testing (practical)

· DWI Wolfpack (ride-along)

· Mock Trial

Many courses combine classroom training with practical “hands-on” training.

Academy participants must attend 9 of 10 sessions to receive a certificate of completion.

Academy Fee

The fee for the Citizens Police Academy is $25 dollars.  (This cost helps defray the cost of training materials and academy supplies).  The Fee must be submitted with the application and is fully refundable if not accepted by the Academy.

Checks should be made payable to the City of Cottleville.
