Service remains the same for other holidays including Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Columbus Day, and Veteran's Day.
SOLID WASTE & YARD WASTE INFORMATION Trash collection is on Tuesdays and Fridays and recycling is on Fridays. Only Cottleville solid/yard waste containers can be used for pickup - no pivately owned containers due to liability issues. Yard waste pickup is once a week on Wednesdays, at $5.00 a month per container or $60 a year. Cottleville residents also have the option of using brown paper lawn bags (available at retail stores) or tying bundles not exceeding 3 feet in lengh and 75 lbs in weight. Additional yard waste can be taken to the Earth Center. AN IMPORTANT NOTE: The collection truck is automated and the driver does not routinely exit the vehicle. Containers must be at the curb by 6:30 am with the lid opening facing the street; ALL trash and tied blue bags must be inside the container. Containers and brown lawn bags need to be placed 5 feet from any obstruction, ie. mailboxes, parked vehicles, basketball hoops for pick up and to prevent damage from the automated collection arm. VIOLATION STICKERS Solid waste and yard waste violation stickers will be issued to violators. The sticker will be placed on the can to inform the resident.FYI - Dirt, rocks, and sod are classified as solid waste. These items interfere with the yard waste machinery. Please put these items in your solid waste container for pick up. BLUE RECYCLING BAGS Recyclable items should be separated, with containers in one blue bag and paper products in another blue bag. The blue bags should be placed inside the solid waste container on Fridays. If you should run out of blue bags before the next delivery, blue bags can be picked up at City Hall OR tie a blue bag on your solid waste container handle and the driver will drop you a roll of blue bags. Items with the number 1, 2, 3, 5, or 7 can be recycled.FREE BULK PICK UP DATES Mark your calendars! Wednesday, September 29, 2010 is FREE bulk pick up day. You must call 48 hours in advance; list your address, subdivision, and your bulk items. Addresses not on the schedule will NOT have their items picked up. Outstanding solid waste balances must be paid before scheduling. Please read the prohibited items below.
SPECIAL BULK PICK UP At other times, items can be taken to St. Peters Recycle City facility for a minimum fee of $20.00 per 1000 lbs; appliances with motors or compressors, have an additional fee. Or call Lindsay to arrange a special bulk pickup for a minimum fee of $40.00 per 4 cubic yards. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE PROHIBITED Certain items are prohibited for bulk pickup, such as; hazardous waste, commercial waste, items that exceed 8 feet, grass clippings, extra bags of refuse, tires and car batteries, white goods, wet paints, and motor oils. NEW RESIDENTS RECEIVE ONE FREE CARDBOARD PICK UP Call Lindsay to be added to the schedule for Tuesday pick up. ONLY cardboard! Please NO styrofoam, paper, plastic, or bubble wrap. Christmas trees - The Earth Centre will take Christmas Trees during regular Earth Centre hours for residents. All decorations, lights, and stands must be removed from the tree. Also, if transporting the tree in a plastic bag, please remove the bag at the Earth Centre and put the bag in the trash can provided. Curbside collection is on normal yard waste day pickup (Wednesday) - tree must be cut in half. Paint cans - Paint needs to be dry. Use a clay based cat litter, sawdust, or sand; mix by stirring, and let the paint dry. Leave the paint lid off and place the dry paint can inside the solid waste can. Styrofoam peanuts - Styrofoam peanuts need to be placed inside a tied bag. Please no loose peanuts. Sharps (hypodermic needles and syringes) - Avoid recapping needles. Place used needles directly in a heavy-duty, puncture resistant container, such as a plastic detergent bottle or an empty bleach bottle. Place one teaspoon of bleach in the container. Screw the lid tightly closed and secure the lid using heavy-duty tape. Write "Medical Waste" in permanent ink. Dispose in trash - not with recycleables. NEVER USE A GLASS CONTAINER FOR NEEDLE DISPOSAL! Cooking grease - Cooking grease is in solid form. The solid form needs to be in a sealed container and then placed inside the solid waste can. Cooking oil - Cooking oil is in liquid form and CAN NOT be placed inside the solid waste can. For assistance, contact Recycle City. Motor oil - Motor oil CAN NOT be placed inside the solid waste can. It can be disposed of at Recycle City. Tires - Tires can be disposed at a dealership or retailer who sells tires. They may charge a fee. Household hazardous and/or chemical waste - County residents can dispose of hazards in their home for FREE at St. Charles County Recylce works. An appointment is REQUIRED! Call (636) 949-7900 X 4271. WHITE GOODS (APPLIANCES) White goods (refrigerator, freezer, washer, dryer, dish washer, hot water heater, stove) can be disposed by purchasing tags at City Hall for a fee of $10.00 each appliance. White goods are picked up on Mondays. Scheduling must be made before noon on Friday for the following Monday pick up. The tag must be placed on the item and the item must be placed at the curb on the date indicated by 6:30 am. These items are picked up by a contractor and recycled. *Stoves and hot water heaters may be scheduled for bulk pick up. If white goods need to be disposed of in a hurry, they may be taken to Recycle City for a fee. BILLING Residents are billed bi-monthly, which includes solid waste pickup twice a week and recycling. The net amount is the current balance due in the account. Remit the net amount before the due date. Remit the gross amount after the due date.
